Contraception

The Tredegar Practice offers access to a variety of contraception including:

- the combined oral contraception pill (COCP) also known more simply as the pill

- contraceptive coils – both IUCD & IUS Currently unavailable at the practice due to long term staff sickness

For more general information on the various methods of contraception including their relative advantages and disadvantages please click here

You can also visit local sexual health services such as the Ambrose King Centre.

COCP - the pill

New/First Pill: If you want to start the pill or to change your current pill please make an appointment with a doctor.

Pill Check/Review: you should have a pill check once a year to ensure your blood pressure is ok and there are no other problems. If you are due a pill check then please make an appointment with a nurse.

NEW! Walk In Pill Checks We are trialling a way for patients to get a repeat prescription of the pill without needing to take time off work to come to an appointment. You need to just complete a form and use our SurgeryPod to check your blood pressure. You can do this anytime we are open and the prescription will be ready in 48 hours. If you prefer you can still make an appointment with a nurse to discuss the pill and your other options.

Please note that GPs across Tower Hamlets do not prescribe the contraceptive pill Yasmin to patients because of associated increased health risks.

Contraceptive Coil

Currently unavailable due to long term staff sickness - please use other local services instead - see above

Condoms

Are unfortunately no longer available from the practice. You can still get free condoms from local sexual health services such as the Ambrose King Centre or if using the the Come Correct scheme you can check their website for other local sources.
