Following the discovery of type 2 vaccine-derived poliovirus in sewage in north and east London, the Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation (JCVI) has advised that a targeted inactivated polio vaccine (IPV) booster dose should be offered to all children between the ages of 1 and 9 in all London boroughs.
More information about why these boosters are being offered can be found here.
More information about Polio can be found here.
Arranging a Polio Vaccine
Select the appropriate option for your child from the four options below to see where you can get your child the appropriate Polio vaccine.
Age | Child’s vaccine status | |
1 year and 5 years | Overdue routine vaccinations | Up to date and need a Booster |
6 years and 9 years | Overdue routine vaccinations | Up to date and need a Booster |
How do I know if my child is Overdue their Routine vaccinations?
The easiest way is to check the child’s Red Book. You can also check the NHS.uk page for the standard schedule for childhood immunisations here.
If your child was aged 1-5 and overdue you should have already received an invite message from us. If you are still unsure please contact the practice via Accurx and we can check for you.
Children Who Don’t Need a Booster
If your child completed their standard Polio vaccination schedule i.e. had their Pre School Booster in the last 12 months then they do not need a booster. We have already messaged the relevant people to let them know that they don’t need to do anything.
