Contraceptive Pill
New – if you have not had the contraceptive pill before please message us via Accurx Triage and we will discuss this with you.
Ongoing Contraceptive Pill Prescriptions
Before we can provide more of your contraceptive pill we need to do a pill check: this normally happens once a year and involves a blood pressure check and a few safety questions. If you are happy with your pill and there are no issues raised by your answers we should just be able to give you another prescription for 1 year (made up of 2x 6 month batches) without an appointment with a GP or nurse.
Please call reception and schedule a time to use our SurgeryPod to check your blood pressure and answer a few questions. These will be passed on and a prescription will be ready in 24 working hours. The prescription can be sent straight to your chemist if you like.
Please note that GPs across Tower Hamlets do not prescribe the contraceptive pill Yasmin to patients because of associated increased health risks.
Contraceptive Coils
Coil Fitting
We are able to offer a limited number of copper coils and hormone releasing coils for non-emergency contraception purposes. Please contact the practice via AccuRx to submit your interest in a coil, we will then contact you to arrange a telephone assessment with one of coil fitters Dr Hodkinson (GP) or Kelly (Advanced Nurse Practitioner). At this phone call we will assess your suitability for the coils and book you in accordingly.
You can also access coils at the local sexual health centre Click here to visit their website
Coil Removal
Coils can be removed here at Tredegar Practice. Please contact us via the AccuRx, you may receive a text or a phone call to book in with Kelly (Advanced Nurse Practitioner). Please ensure you use condoms very carefully or abstain for 7 days before coil removal unless you are planning a pregnancy. Please take some paracetamol or ibuprofen before your appointment as you may experience some period like cramps.
